Seeds, is it worth planting now?

I’m talking seeds in the ground. Nothing against greenhouses or shuffling round lots of seeds trays on windowsills but we like to keep things easy, so anything that can go straight in ground is great in our book. No April Fool’s joke this either, in fact some seeds have been in for a couple of weeks already. So what seeds have we put in? So far, 3 types of peas, mangetout, sugar snap and a climber called Alderman. Just straight into the ground with the little dried peas in our frost-pocket of a veg bed! Based on last year, we’re fairly confident they’ll be ok as long as they are covered with fleece. The downside is the veg bed looks like someone’s bedding has flown off the line and landed here. So be brave, maybe just try a few seeds so you don’t look like you’ve lost all of your laundry. We have found thick fleece works best because you have to secure it with stones or bricks and the thin stuff tears. I have used old net curtain in the past but they don’t keep the crop warm and that’s what you need at the moment.
