Meditation is boring
It can make your back ache too! The person expressing these views has a point and I’m not going to spend the rest of this post trying to prove them wrong either. It’s a bit like exercise. No one seems to tell you that it’ll be inconvenient and will make you sweaty and ache all over. So when you give it a go and it makes you feel those things you get put off. And much like learning any new skill, there are the hours of learning the basics, of trying and failing. It’s so easy to get put off something because you start at the wrong point. Trying to master a complicated jazz piece on the piano might not be the place to begin. Learning scales is, well, going to be boring by comparison. So how can I encourage you to make a start, or a fresh start with meditation? Simple, trying observing. Just for a few seconds, here and there, throughout the day. We have been so conditioned to look at everything as a resource, what it means to us, what can it do for us, how can I change or improve it? But next time you look out of the window, just look and observe, as if the trees or flowers might be observing you.
