Retreat or cake?

Sometimes you don’t know what you want, you just know you need to stop. The wheels of your life are turning too quickly and you hear phrases like ‘being on a treadmill’. It’s good to be busy and to have a full life but when the meaning goes out of it you lose the will to put the effort in, it start to feel like your life isn’t your choice at all and it’s all drudgery that you don’t remember signing up for. Paradoxically, stopping when you most feel like this is often the way to get the meaning back. Rather than pushing on, you just need to stop for a moment, cease your activity, stop your busy mind and, we would say, drop into your heart space. You remember why you chose this life, this job, this family, these projects and it seems worthwhile again. Easy? No. Putting the brakes on is harder than we think, it’s almost like we have to do something else to stop whatever we’re doing. Going from really busy to a serene stillness takes a whole load of practice and we can help with that. However, the choice here is retreat or cake? Either will do. Perhaps both would be better. It’s probably easier to chose afternoon tea than to pick a retreat that might suit. It’s familiar and there’s cake! It’s why we can still find money for a coffee even in these hard-up times, we know we need to stop, we know we need to drink. So sensing the breeze we thought we’d offer a few Afternoon Tea dates. You can find them, plus all the other retreats in our ‘what’s on’ section accessed for the menu at the top of page.
